Mental health struggles are normal for everyone during their life span. Nevertheless, taking the step toward something new and unknown (such as therapy) will likely create high amounts of discomfort, fear, and anxiety for anyone. However, there is evidence and research that shows that even meeting someone briefly for therapy (with certain life challenges) can be beneficial and help with effectively responding to normal painful emotions.
My first priority of working with you as a client is for you to feel heard and understood. Next, we can then begin to take steps toward looking at your internal pain, discomfort, depression, or anxiety. For all of us, our pain (though as unpleasant as it may be) usually signifies what we care about most and can give us incredible insight into where we want our life to go and our values. As we move toward uncovering what this pain tells us, it can give us a profound foundation to know what types of steps (no matter how small) we can begin to take toward our values and where we want our life to go. This type of approach (also called Acceptance and Commitment Therapy) is what you can expect from me as a mental health therapist.
There are also trauma-focused treatments (EMDR, Cognitive Processing Therapy, Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavior Therapy) that I provide to many clients. This type of treatment is intended to help reduce and provide relief from internal pain/suffering related to past trauma, devastation, and memories that can cause a person to feel stuck.
As a mental health therapist, it is also important for you to know that I highly value the following:
1. To treat you as a person (and not as a patient who we are trying to fix).
2. To work with you side by side (as opposed to being highly authoritative and advice driven).
3. To maintain consistency with what to expect at your therapy appointments.
4. To maintain an ongoing stance of openness to your experience as a person.
5. To maintain a high-level of integrity of treating you with respect, dignity, and with inherent value and worth.
6. To maintain honesty, integrity, transparency, and clarity about your fees for service.
7. To help you to the absolute best of my ability, training, and experience.
8. To provide you with quality referrals if this practice is not a good fit for your needs.
9. To show up fully (and 110%) to where you are at for each session.
Most of all, I do my absolute best to work collaboratively with every client and help them take steps toward their own personalized goals and hopes in their life.
